(THE PICTURE IS KENNETH AND SASHA) A British Army dog handler killed in Afghanistan was due to leave
front line duties the day before he died, the Ministry of Defence said.
Lance Corporal Kenneth Rowe and his dog Sasha died in a firefight with the Taliban on Thursday 24th
july in Sangin, Helmand Province.
Another six soldiers were injured.
His commanding officer, Major Stuart McDonald, said he had been due to leave the base on Wednesday.
But he had asked to stay because he was worried about the lack of cover.
"This unselfish action epitomised his professionalism and dedication to his job," he said.
LCpl Rowe, of the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, had been attached to 2nd Battalion, The Parachute
Regiment.
He had joined the Army in Newcastle in March 2005 and was sent to Afghanistan three years later.
Major Chris Ham said: "As an Ammunition and Explosives Search Dog Handler, LCpl Rowe was an integral
part of 2 PARA’s capability to conduct effective search operations.
"He died supporting his colleagues in a situation that required his customary composure and
professionalism in handling his dog whilst facing a substantial threat from the enemy.
In doing so he demonstrated all of the spirit, dedication and bravery of both his own unit and the
Company of which he had become an integral part."
Captain Cees Bennett, Veterinary Officer, added: "Ken was the cheeky Geordie who always made you
smile, even when he was annoyingly cheerful in the mornings.
"He took pride in what he did and in becoming better at it; he was already someone who others looked
up to.
"He will be sorely missed as that bright spark in a crowd and as a genuinely good bloke."IF ANY OF

A Soldier
Ther is a discipline in a Soldier
You can see it when he walks,
There is an honer in a Soldier
You can see it when he talks.
There is courage in a Soldier
You can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in a Soldier
that he will not compromise.
There is something in a Soldier
that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in a Soldier
that beats from the heart.
A Soldier isn't a title any man can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man buried deep inside of you.
A Soldier's job is'nt finished after an 8 hour day or a forty hour week,
A Soldier is always a Soldier even when he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his county first and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacriface what comes first in a civilian's mind.
If your a civilian-
Iam saying this to you....
next time you see A Soldier remember what they do.
A Soldier is the one that is brave protecting you.
If you know a Soldier -
I am saying this to you......

The news is spread far and and wide
Another comrade has sadly died
A sunset vigil upon the sand
As a soldier and his dog leaves this foreign land
We stand a lone, and yet as one
In the fading light of the setting sun
We've all gathered to say goodbye
To our fallen comrade and his dog who are set to fly
The eulogy's read about their lifr
Sometimes with words from pals or wife
We all know when th CO,S done
What kind of soldier they'd becomes
The padra then calls us all to pray
The bugler has last post to play
The cannon roars and belches flame
We will recall, with pride, their name's
A minuet's silence stood in place
As tears roll down the harvest face
Deafening silence fills the air
With each of us in personal pray
Reveille sounds and parade is done
The hero's remembered, forgotten by none
They leave to start the journey back
In a coffin's draped in the Union Jack
With love and respect to a man and his dog, for they fought together and died together.
God bless you Ken and Sasha

WAR..........
WHY ARE ALL THESE BOYS KILLED AT WAR?
WILL THERE EVER BE ANY PEACE AT ALL
SO MUCH HEARTBREAK AND SORROW I SEE
SITTING HERE LOOKING BACK AT ME
I WONDER WHY THIS ALWAYS BRINGS SO MUCH PAIN
I KNOW THAT THE FAMILYS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME
SO MANY SOLDIERS REST WITH THE LORD ABOVE
NOW SO MANY REST IN THE GARDEN OF PURE LOVE
DEATH SEEMS THE ONLY WAY A SOLDIER WILL FIND PEACE
WILL THE WAR AND DISTUCTION EVER CEASE?
WAR BRINGS SO MUCH PAIN AND HEARTBREAK TO ALL
A YOUNG BOY IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HEARD GODS CALL
TO FREE THEM FROM THE PAIN THAT MANY ARE STILL IN
THEY HEARD THE VOICE CALLING FROM DEEP WITHIN
THERE SPRIRT WILL LIVE ON IN EACH AND EVERY HEART
ANOTHER YOUNG HERO OF OURS WHY DO WARS EVER START?.......
God Bless All Our Soldiers

A Proud Soldier
I WENT WHERE OTHERS FEARED TO GO
AND DID WHAT OTHERS FAILED TO DO
I ASKED FOR NOTHING FROM THOSE WHO GAVE NOTHING
AND RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THE THOUGHT
OF ETERNAL LONELINESS SHOULD I FAIL
I HAVE SEEN THE FACES OF TERROR
FELT THE STINGING COLD OF FEAR
AND ENJOYED THE SWEET
TASTE OF MOMENTS LOVE
I HAVE CRYED
PAINED AND HOPED
BUT MOST OF ALL
I HAVE LIVED TIMES OTHERS WOULD ONLY SAY
WHERE BEST FRIENDS FORGOTTEN
AT LEAST ONE DAY I WILL BE ABLE TO SAY THAT
I WAS PROUD OF WHO I WAS
A SOLDIER.
GOD BLESS YOU KENNETH AND SASHA LOVE ANNE xxxx
A SOILDER BOY AND HIS DOG.......
WHEN THE GATES OF HEAVEN OPENED YOU BOTH ENTERED THEM WITH PRIDE
THOUGH YOU LOOKED BACK ON YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY YOUR TEARS YOU COULD NOT HIDE
WE KNOW THAT YOUR DOG CAME WITH YOU HIS MASTER HELD IS LEASH
WHEN ALL THAT YOU WERE DOING THERE WAS TRYING TO MAKE WORLD PEACE!
ANOTHER YOUNG SOLIDER TAKEN FAR TOO SOON I LOOK WITH DISMAY
WHEN A SOILDER WORKS FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY THIS IS SOME PRICE TO PAY!
WHY I ASK MYSELF ONCE AGAIN WHAT SHOULD THIS MAN DO
TURN HIS BACK FOR ALL THAT HE BELEIVES THIS IS OUR COUNTRY TOO
ANOTHER BRITISH SOILDER WHO LIVES WITH THE LORD ABOVE
HE DIED FIGHTING FOR THIS COUNRTY THE ONE THAT WE ALL LOVE!
TEARS OF SADDNESS STREAM SLOWLEY DOWN MY FACE
WONDERING WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE......
